Safe Bullying Prevention Program

WalletHub analysts compared 47 states and the District of Columbia across 20 metrics, ranging from bullying incident rate to truancy costs for schools to share of high school students bullied online. In 2018, WI ranked seventh in the study overall and fourth for students bullied at school.

Research shows that only four in one hundred adults will intervene. And only 11 percent of the child’s peers might do the same. The rest, 85 percent, will do nothing. Research also shows that when a peer steps in and says something, the bullying stops within ten seconds. In addition, kids have shared that they would rather have their peers step in than get their parents involved.

According to the CDC’s 2017 Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System, 19% of students in grades 9-12 said they were bullied on school property in the previous 12 months. 14.9% of students surveyed said they were cyberbullied. Today, bullying takes many forms, and technological advances have opened new ways for bullies to hide behind anonymity.

SAFE International MKE is looking to change these statistics in Wisconsin and beyond. We exist to empower people with knowledge, skills and confidence in threatening situations, so it is only natural to help impact parents and kids in our state with bullying prevention information that could contribute to keeping kids safer and reducing the problem.
